Currently a Woman’s Business Enterprise, with Delor D’Andrea Cornell as owner and President, Cornell & Company, Inc. has been in the erection business as a contractor for the past 90 years enjoying the enviable reputation as one of the nation’s leaders.

From Liberty Place in Philadelphia to The World Trade Center Memorial in New York and beyond, Cornell has played a major role in shaping the future, specializing in the erection of structural steel and precast concrete, involved in the rehabilitation of bridge structures as a prime contractor, bridge fabrication and erection, and providing equipment for multistory buildings, waterfront and other industrial work. Familiar with every aspect of Tower Gantry Crane engineering technology and construction engineering, both steel and concrete, Cornell serves the national construction marketplace with state of the art systems engineering.

Cornell began as a small one-man steel erection business in Woodbury, New Jersey in the early 1900’s. Charles Frederick Cornell left New York in 1910 to start his company in the South Jersey community where it still maintains its headquarters. After his death, his only son, Ralph, demonstrated his leadership initiative and resolves that eventually made Cornell & Company one of the largest steel construction companies on the East Coast.

In 1975 Ralph’s son, Charles who by this time had 20 years’ experience developing erection skills specializing in major bridge and high-rise structures, became the President/Field Superintendent. He molded Cornell & Company into a specialist for the Atlantic City redevelopment and the high-rise boom in Philadelphia.

In 1984 Delor D’Andrea Cornell joined the company as General Manager and in 1988 became President and CEO. Having over 25 years of experience in the construction industry, she oversees all aspects of the business. In 1996 she acquired sole ownership of the corporation. Delor is also responsible for Cornell’s most recent expansion into Manhattan and throughout the state of New York. A pioneer in life saving construction techniques, she is former co-chair of the Ironworkers International “Impact” Drug & Alcohol task force.
